Fall patterns are here. Just like that, fall weather sweeps in and we move on to scarves, jeans and layers. The darker colors (long live fall’s go-to shade of burgundy) replace the neons of summer and your wardrobe does a rotation in the closet. Or does it?

Typically, fall means darker hues and a lack of patterns…but fall 2012 is a whole other bag of tricks. You know those floral pants you loved wearing back in spring? Leave them out. And that plaid blazer you saw but were unsure whether or not to buy it? You should. Fall patterns are everything! The more plaid, tartan, floral, and animal print, the better. Pants, blazers and skirts in any and every pattern are perfectly acceptable to wear to the office, to a party, or simply anywhere else you feel like making a statement.

1. Pair those spring florals with a great pair of heels (with a chunky square heel, preferably!)

2. Make your blazers bold. Think tartan, houndstooth, plaid. Pair with a great belt or burgundy and emerald accessories.

3. Don’t be afraid of white in the fall. Pair it with patterned skirts/pants and tube scarf.

4. Channel style icons like Gwen Stefani, Zooey Deschanel, Felicity Jones and Lana Del Rey.
