Challenge: Get Game of Thrones Style!
Games of Thrones, first a series of epic fantasy novels, is now a critically acclaimed hit TV show on HBO. Along with engaging story lines, captivating characters, plenty of twists and turns, the show is also a visual masterpiece. While the scenery and sets have a lot to do with the overall aesthetic of the show, the costumes really are the pièce de résistance.
If you’ve been just as captivated by the show as we have, and want to pay homage to your favorite character by adding a little bit of Game of Thrones style into your everyday look, keep reading! After all, it is rumored that Helmut Lang’s Fall 2012 line was inspired by the costumes seen on Game of Thrones!
House of Stark
House Stark is a noble house in the North. Darker hair, light skin, and grey eyes characterize those in House Stark. Their sigil is a grey direwolf and the North is very cold, so it is no surprise that the family dresses in loads of fur to stay warm.
Fur Stole / Broach / Fur jacket pc: HBO
Pile on the fur for the House of Stark look! Keep your fur in place with a fancy broach and you’re all set.
House of Lannister
The Lannisters are tall, blonde, and usually quite attractive. They hail from the South so their dress is much lighter, prettier, and more ornate than those of the North.
Long dress / Earrings / Wrap pc: HBO
Head to toe patterns, long dresses, and pretty jewelry scream Lannister.
Dothraki
The Dothraki people are a copper-skinned race with dark eyes and black hair. Very much like savage nomads, with their own language and unique culture, the Dothraki people are easy to identify. The men –and women for that matter –are often portrayed without shirts and leather skirt-like bottoms.
Leather skirt / Cropped top / Silver Arm Band pc: HBO
Don a leather skirt or a crop top (or both!) for your basic Dothraki wear. Top off your look with a few small braids and a tough arm band.
Will you wear your favorite character from Game of Thrones’ style this season?
