Celebrate The Gap Birthday With Us!

Happy Birthday to you,

We love what you do

great clothes at great prices

Gap styles are our vices!

Happy Birthday to the Gap! 43 years ago today, on August 21st, the first Gap store was opened in San Francisco! Shoppers were only too happy to fall into the Gap (remember that catchy jingle?). The store rapidly expanded from Levi’s (and other jeans…1969 price only $7… oh the glory days!) to logo styles (were they the first to think of such a great way to advertise?) to just about anything you’d like to wear (for everyone going anywhere)!

Let’s celebrate the Gap birthday with their vintage ads, which have always had flare (& not just the jeans)! In the 80’s they ‘wowed’ us with celebs both old and new, catchy dance numbers, bright colors and brighter stars. Cindy Crawford was just 16 in this ad. Hepburn was considerably older when she became a Gap girl. Simple styles never seemed so hot!

The Gap has evolved with the times. In the early days it was THE place for all things denim with walls and walls of jeans. GAP logowear soon became the must-have in every classroom. Prepster styles – khakis in particular – have been an old Gap standby and were soon available for the whole family.

Today, however, Gap Inc. is so much more than jeans and prep gear. Gap Inc. has expanded to more than 3,200 stores under the umbrella of not only Gap but also Old Navy, Athleta, Banana Republic, & Piperlime.

Happy Birthday Gap! Thanks for the fun memories & the clothes we love to wear to make new ones!

Unfortunately, I’ve never ever been in $ financial po$ition to be able to shop at the GAP I’m a resale, 2nd hand yard sale, thrift store, consignment shop gal. But I think your clothes are very well made, durable & timeless. I’m on disability,on $668.00 per month.. should my situation change. I get divinely healed, or go into remission, I will save up to shop there. Until then…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
